Mushroom Foraging Sierra Nevada (Morels & Porcini target) May Dates

In the springtime, the mushrooms head to the mountains. Let’s go look for them!

We will learn about montane ecology, including fungi and plants, while targeting morels and spring porcini.

This program will teach you foundational skills to be able to go foraging on your own.. We will include a cooking demo, cover mushroom anatomy for identification, tree and plant identification, poisonous and edible mushrooms, and forest safety.  Find the mythical “fairy fart” mushroom, the gorgeous purple cup fungi, and more! Fun for all ages. 3-5 miles on uneven terrain required.

Please note that all the habitats we offer mushroom classes in, mountain habitats are the most variable and hardest to predict. So these classes may be in El Dorado National Forest or the Tahoe National Forest, depending on conditions. We will be updating as we have more information on conditions.

Led by Taye Bright, Thea Chesney, Christopher O’Maelmacasa, and Dean Lyons

8 May class dates (not a series): May 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 30, 31. 10am-3pm
