Join Christian Schwarz — co-author of two of the leading field guides to mushrooms of the western United States and expert on fungi of the Channel Islands, off of Los Angeles, CA — for a weekend retreat to learn about the fascinating world of island fungi and ecology.
With lectures about the basics of fungal biology and mushroom identification to a hands-on identification workshop, Christian will guide you through a just-right combination of introduction and a deep dive into the world of fungi.
All meals are provided by popular myco-chef Chad Hyatt.
The Channel Islands are one of California's most intriguing biodiversity hotspots — providing habitat for dozens of organisms that live nowhere else on earth. Despite a long history of botanical and zoological exploration on these islands, there has been no systematic study of the fungi that live here!
Christian is working on the first such publication — a mycoflora of the California Archipelago. By participating in this retreat, your observations and collections of mushrooms will directly contribute to making mycological history!
This all-inclusive retreat includes: lodging, a round-trip boat ride, an all-day field class on Saturday, and all meals.
